Emily Burridge - Bach, Burridge and Into the Amazon | Fri 12 Feb, 7.30pm
Bach, Burridge and Into the Amazon

Emily started playing the 'cello at the age of five and was encouraged to perform publicly. She was later awarded a scholarship to Wells Cathedral school. She is a renowned master of her instrument, unique in her ability to improvise and cross genres of classical and contemporary music. Much in demand as a session player, she has worked with Roger Daltrey, George Michael, Chrissie Hind, Jools Holland, Zero 7, Stereophonics and Hans Zimmer to name a few and is featured on numerous albums and film soundtracks as a featured artist and playing within string sections.

In "Bach & Burridge" Emily combines the early classical with the contemporary. Selected movements from the Dance Suites for unaccompanied 'cello by J.S. Bach are interwoven with Emily's own compositions.
In "Into the Amazon" Emily integrates recordings from the natural environment of the forests in Brazil with recordings of Xavante Indian traditional songs and creatively accompanies with the 'cello extemporising on the Indian chants.
"Into the Amazon" is Emily’s musical response to her personal experiences of tribal cultures and the forest environment in Brazil.
