SAC Music & Drama Group

presents

by Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft

Based on the hugely popular TV comedy series, the stage version of this show follows the adventures of René the hapless café-owner in war-torn occupied France. His café is full of Germans who he has to be nice to, his wife Edith, who he also has to be nice to and his waitresses Yvette and Mimi who he enjoys being nice to when his wife isn’t about!
He is hiding two British Airmen in his cellar and with the help of Michelle of the Resistance is trying to repatriate them. However, communications with London through a wireless disguised as a cockatoo, add to the many embarrassments he endures. He and Edith are struggling to keep for themselves a priceless portrait stolen by the Nazis which they have been forced to hide in a sausage in their cellar. Herr Flick of the Gestapo wants the painting and Col von Strohm also wants the painting. Matters are made worse by a rumour that Hitler is about to visit the town and come to the café. The new district commander General von Schmelling decides that he also wants this painting so that he can give it to Hitler when he visits the café. As a result the café becomes filled with tricksters who all think they have good reasons to impersonate the Führer.
With all this going on René faces being shot by the Gestapo, the Resistance or – his wife!!
Hilariously funny, this play is full of classic farce set-ups, physical comedy, visual gags, ridiculously amusing fake accents and fast moving action.
